Dimethyl sulfide (DMS) is utilized as a small but critical component in perfumery to enhance certain attractive qualities of various fragrances. DMS is also used as a component in flavorings for dairy products and for enhancing corn-related flavors. It is listed in the US Food Chemical Codex and the Code of Federal Regulations as a synthetic flavoring substance and adjuvant (CFR 21 §172.515).

Who We Are

Gaylord Chemical Company, LLC is the world’s preeminent producer of Dimethyl Sulfide, Dimethyl sulfoxide, and Procipient. Gaylord’s history dates back to 1962 when under the ownership of Crown Zellerbach, began an aggressive and comprehensive research program into the manufacture of Dimethyl Sulfide (DMS), Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) and other chemicals. The results of this extensive work would later give our company an astounding depth of knowledge about these products.

The assets of Crown Zellerbach were sold in 1986. In 1988 Gaylord Chemical Corporation was formed as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Ownership of the company transferred to Temple Inland Inc in 2002. Gaylord Chemical Company, LLC was formed as a result of a management buyout of Gaylord Chemical Corporation effective September 1, 2007.

Today, we continue to manufacture DMS and DMSO under the ownership of Eagle Tree Capital.
