DMS

Dimethyl Sulfide (DMS) is commonly used as a sulfidation agent in ethylene production, an agent for food flavoring and can be used in the synthesis of fine chemicals. Gaylord Chemical offers a few product grades which are manufactured to meet the requirements of these very different applications.

DMS Exact-S Grade

DMS Exact-S® Grade is the standard olefins sulfidation agent in North America. It is added to gas and liquid feedstocks as they enter steamcracking furnaces and regulates the formation of carbon monoxide and controls the rate at which coke develops.

DMS Exact-S® Grade is manufactured in a way to minimize feedstock contaminant impurities which cause problems in steamcracking furnaces and downstream processes. These include carbon disulfide, methyl mercaptan, carbonyl sulfide and problematic metals.

Key Applications

Sulfidation agent for ethylene production.

DMS FNF Grade

DMS FNF Grade is a dimethyl sulfide product suitable for use as a flavoring and fragrance component. It is the highest purity dimethyl sulfide product available. It is manufactured to minimize impurities which are inappropriate in consumer formulations.

Key Applications

DMS FNF Grade is used as a constituent of various fragrances, and it’s a component of specific flavors for dairy products and for enhancing corn-related flavors. It is listed in the US Food Chemical Codex, and as a synthetic flavoring substance and adjuvant (CFR 21 §172.515).
