Preparative Chromatography. As DMSO can interfere with silica gel and alumina chromatographic methods, it is useful to remove DMSO from preparative samples to below 5 wt% in the sample, prior to application to the column. A short ‘sponge column’ is one way to do this.
Instrumental methods. DMSO-based may be analyzed by gas chromatography using FID detection. For detailed method information, Ask the Expert.
DMSO-based mixtures may also be analyzed using reverse-phase HPLC, and a UV detector. DMSO is detected at 210 nm.
