Performance chemicals impart enhanced properties to commodities, such as, polymers, plastics, textiles, rubber and the like during processing or in application.
Performance chemicals are typically grouped by functional area. For example, performance chemical include polymer additives, such as processing aids, blowing agents and mold releases.
UV light stabilizers, antioxidants, biocides and acid scavengers are used to increase the resistance to degradation during processing or application. A plethora of other performance chemicals are used to enhance/modify mechanical properties.
DMSO dissolves a tremendous array of organic molecules, carbohydrates, polymers, peptides, even many inorganic salts and gases. Enhanced loading levels and faster reaction rates translate to dramatic enhancement in process economics in performance chemical synthesis. Two examples follow:
