Senior Management Team


The Senior Management Team brings a combined 80 years of experience in the chemical and forest products industries to the leadership of Gaylord Chemical Corporation.


Paul Dennis
President and Chief Executive Officer

Paul has 28 years of experience in specialty chemicals industry in markets such as textiles, coatings, personal care and detergents. He started with OSi Specialities (formerly part of Specialty Chemicals Division of Union Carbide Corporation) and progressed through successive sales and marketing roles, ultimately becoming a Global Business Manager for Crompton  Corporation. Paul gained experience in an ealry phase, start-up enviroment at ChemDomain, Inc. (product development software). As Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Paul helped shape the business model, and he developed and implemented the customer acquisition strategy. Paul became President of Gaylord Chemical in 2003. Paul has a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee.

 

Craig Alexander
Executive Vice President

Craig has 25 years experience in industries such as specialty chemicals and software including 13 years at Loctite (division of Henkel) and OSi Specialities (Crompton Corporation). Prior to the formation of Gaylord Chemical Company, L.L.C., he served as an officer of Gaylord Chemical Corporation.  Craig has held numerous roles in sales, marketing, business development, market development and management. Craig has a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Management-Electrical from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA in International Business from the University of St. Thomas.

 


Pat Lovell
Executive Vice President, International Business

Pat has 34 years of experience in the chemicals industry including 26 years with the Dow Chemical Company. Pat’s accomplishments include value creation in customer-facing roles including sales, product management, customer service management, and distributor management. For 9 years he was Dow’s Global Director of Distributor management where he oversaw sales of $1.6 billion channeled through distribution. In this role Pat also functioned as National Sales Director for Dow’s distributor sales force. directed the customer service department supporting Dow’s North American distributor business. Pat has a B.A. in History from Louisiana State University and has participated in ongoing executive education at the University of Michigan, Wharton School of Business and Indiana University.

 

 

Dawn Pichon, CPA
Vice President and Controller

Dawn has been with Gaylord Chemical for 24 years.  She was made a member  of the Senior Management Team in January of 2012.  In her capacity as Controller, she oversees all accounting, payroll and human resource activities for Gaylord. Prior to coming to Gaylord, Dawn was with KPMG, a nationwide CPA firm, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dawn is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a B.S.in  Accounting and is a Louisiana Certified Public Accountant.

  

Marc Smith
Vice President, Manufacturing

Marc Smith's positions with Dow Chemical and Steward Company have exposed him to a variety of manufacturing technologies across the US, and a recent multiyear assignment in Mainland China. Marc is a graduate of Mississippi State University (B.S. Chemical Engineering) and lives in Tuscaloosa, AL with his wife Janis. They have 3 grown sons. Among his hobbies are leadership training, hiking, biking, and photography.

 

Sales, Marketing, & Technology


The cross-functional TechnoMarketing team brings specialized expertise in the areas of inorganic and organic chemicals, as well as the life sciences.

 

Artie McKim, Ph.D. MBA
Director of Technology

Dr. McKim has worked in the chemical industry in a research and development capacity for over 15 years, in the areas of technical service, new product synthesis, process optimization, and new product development. He started with Hoechst Celanese at the Technical Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he participated in the synthesis of new chemical products at the benchtop and piloting levels. He has been with Gaylord Chemical since 1999, leading the development efforts at our Bogalusa and Tuscaloosa laboratories.

Artie earned his PhD in synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of North Texas in 1999, under Regents Professor Alan P. Marchand. Areas included in his expertise and interests are macrocyclic ether/azacrown synthesis, experimental design and general synthetic methodology. Recent collaborations include the synthesis of an unusual class of organic azides, and Suzuki-Miyaura couplings of an unexplored class of organonitrogen compounds.

Dr. McKim earned his MBA from Louisiana State University in 2006.

 

Robert Strub, R.Ph.
Director, Market Development Life Sciences

Bob has over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, nutritional, and food industries. He has held roles in technical service, sales, product management, marketing, and business development. Bob has experience with regulatory compliance and marketing to various industries. Additionally, Bob spent  10 years at Croda where he managed the marketing function for their pharmaceutical business, primarily excipients and nutritional ingredients. Bob has a B.A. degree in Biology from Hartwick College (New York) and a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. He is a registered New York State pharmacist.

Logistics


An array of packaging options, tight supply chain management, and overall customer satisfaction are the focus of the Logistics team.

Claudia Sieger
Logistics Manager

 

Claudia has 16 years experience in the Chemical Industry and has been the Logistics Manager for the past 10 years.  Prior to coming to Gaylord Chemical, Claudia served for over 20 years in the military holding numerous positions in logistical areas.  Claudia is responsible for the inventory management, packaging and transportation of DMS, DMSO and DMSO2  to our customers. She is also responsible for the logistics in obtaining the raw materials needed for the manufacturing of our products.

 

 

Quality


Technical aspects of DMSO quality control require a comprehensive understanding of analytical methods, where sample preparation and handling are critical.

Charles (Greg) Ashe
Quality Manager

With 25 years of analytical experience, Greg has been an asset to Gaylord Chemical Company L.L.C. for 19 of those years. In the past thirteen years as Quality Manager and Analytical Laboratory Manager, he has developed several of the current Dimethyl Sulfoxide products: Electronic, LFP , and Anhydrous grades. Greg also worked on the development of Dimethyl Sulfone and was co-inventor of the unique Procipient® Dimethyl Sulfoxide USP PhEur manufacturing process. Over the last five years he has played a major role in the development of a new catalytic synthesis manufacturing process for Dimethyl Sulfide. These efforts led directly to Gaylord’s licensing of this manufacturing process to Hunt Refining and were instrumental in the subsequent relocation of the Dimethyl Sulfoxide manufacturing facility from Bogalusa LA to Tuscaloosa AL.  He supplied invaluable support to Hunt during the DMS plant startup and continues to support all facets of both DMS and DMSO quality.  In January 2011 Greg assumed the regulatory role of “Quality Manager” for Gaylord’s USP PhEur DMSO. This role also includes providing on-site analytical support and encompasses offering technical support to customers.
