NEVER
give fluids or induce vomiting if patient is unconscious or is having convulsions.
General advice:
Remove
contaminated clothing promptly (launder before reuse).
Eye Contact:
Flush
thoroughly with running water (including under eyelids) for at least 15 minutes.
If irritation persists after
flushing, seek medical attention.
Skin
Contact:
Wash
contaminated skin with water. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.
Ingestion:
If large
amounts have been swallowed and victim is conscious, induce vomiting. Seek
immediate medical care.
Inhalation:
Remove
to fresh air. If breathing has stopped, provide artificial respiration. Keep
the victim warm and seek
medical attention.

General
Hazard:
The
vapor is heavier than air and may travel considerable distances. Ignition
at remote sources and flash back
are potential hazards. It may also explode. Combustion products include highly
toxic sulfur oxide vapors.
Extinguishing
Media:
Dry
chemical, carbon dioxide CO

, alcohol
foam, foam.
Special
protective equipment for fire-fighters:
Wear
a self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing. Use water spray
to keep fire-exposed
containers cool.
Special
Exposure Hazards:
Burning
dimethyl sulfide produces poisonous gases (sulfur oxides). Wear gloves, self-contained
breathing
apparatus, and rubber suit.
Spill,
Leak, or Release:
NOTE: Review Sections 3, 4, and 5 of this MSDS before proceeding with
clean up. Use appropriate PERSONAL
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT during clean up.
Initial Containment:
Immediately
consult your environmental supervisor. Remove ignition sources. Provide explosion-proof
ventilation of the spill area. Do not breathe the vapor or get in eyes or
on skin/clothing. For large spills wear
self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece and protective clothing.
Accidental
Release Measures:
DMS
may be quickly rendered non-flammable and non-odorous by spraying with dilute
liquid sodium
hypochlorite solutions. This converts the DMS to dimethyl sulfoxide, which
may be treated in an approved
wastewater treatment plant.
Do not use solid bleach as violent reaction or fire can occur.
Spill
Clean Up:
Collect
spills on absorbent material and place in a closed metal container for prompt
disposal as a hazardous
waste.
