Agricultural Chemicals

There are two main applications for DMSO in the agrochemical sciences. DMSO is used as a reaction solvent and as an adjuvant in formulation of agrochemical actives.

Synthesis: DMSO is an outstanding reaction solvent for various classes of herbicide and pesticides, including nitrophenyl ethers and imidazolidinones.

Formulation: The powerful solvent properties of DMSO allow for high actives loading, resulting in highly concentrated formulations. In addition DMSO is used to aid systemic transport of active pesticides, growth initiators and nutrients. DMSO is the preferred formulation solvent for Imidacloprid, a general use pesticide.
